Forensic Crime Lab
Analyze crime scene evidence
Forensic Crime Lab
Forensic Crime Lab is the advanced follow-up to Forensic Detectives—a more in-depth STEM summer camp for students ready to take their interest in forensic science to the next level. Where Forensic Detectives introduces the breadth of the field, Forensic Crime Lab goes deeper: students spend the week in intensive laboratory analysis using real forensic techniques in a structured, case-driven curriculum.
Activities include:
- Explore unique fields of forensic science including entomology, chemical spectroscopy, toxicology, and psychological profiling.
- Use DNA barcoding to identify 'crime scene' specimens, and spectrometric methods to identify trace evidence.
- Develop a DNA profile and statistically interpret the results.
- Understand how genealogy is used in human identification and the limitations of DNA evidence.
This camp is a great fit for:
Students who completed Forensic Detectives and are ready for more; future pathologists, doctors, and detectives; and students ready to apply high-level scientific techniques to a forensic context.
