World of Enzymes
Intro to enzymes in molecular biology and industry

World of Enzymes
World of Enzymes is a hands-on molecular biology summer camp for students entering grade 8—or Fun with DNA alumni entering grade 7. Building on the genetics foundation from our entry-level camp, students dive into enzymes: the proteins that power all of biology, and the tools that make modern biotechnology possible. This STEM summer camp bridges foundational DNA science and the advanced techniques used in research labs, hospitals, and forensic science. Each experiment prepares students for the next.
Students will:
- Build molecular models to understand how enzymes work.
- See how enzymes work in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
- Use enzymes to cut DNA at precise locations.
- Analyze DNA fragments using gel electrophoresis.
- Use PCR to look for a "jumping gene" in their own DNA.
This camp is a great fit for:
Students who completed Fun with DNA and want to learn more, anyone curious about food science, and those who don't mind getting their hands dirty.
